How to see how much you have spent on Steam

Steam keeps a running total of the real money you have put into your account. To find it:

  1. Open the Steam store (in the app or at store.steampowered.com) and log in.
  2. Click your account name at the top right and choose Account details.
  3. Under Store & purchase history, click External funds used. Steam shows the total money you have spent from cards, PayPal and other payment methods.

Enter that figure above. For a game-by-game list, click View purchase history on the same page.

What “External funds used” includes

  • Included: games, DLC and in-game purchases paid by card, PayPal or another payment method, and money added to your Steam Wallet.
  • Not included: Steam gift cards and wallet codes, games bought as keys on other sites, and wallet money you earned by selling items on the Community Market. Add the first two separately if you want them counted.
  • Refunds are taken off, so the figure is close to what you really paid.

Spending vs. account value

Money spent and account value usually differ. Most Steam games are bought on sale, in bundles or for free during giveaways, so a library is often worth much more at full price than what was paid for it. On the other hand, money spent on in-game items, battle passes or market items doesn’t add any games to the library. Paste your profile link into the Steam account value calculator to see your library’s value at today’s prices, then enter it above to compare.

Spending less on Steam

  • Wishlist and wait. Steam’s seasonal sales (spring, summer, autumn and winter) bring most games down by 50 to 90%.
  • Use refunds. Games played for under 2 hours and bought in the last 14 days can be refunded.
  • Set a budget. Parents can set spending limits with Steam Family.

Frequently asked questions

How much have I spent on Steam?
Steam shows it on your account page: open the Steam store, click your name at the top right, choose Account details, then click External funds used (it is under Store & purchase history). That figure is the money added to Steam from cards and other payment methods. Enter it here to see it per year and per month.
Where can I see my Steam purchase history?
In the Steam store, open your account menu and choose Account details, then View purchase history. It lists every game, DLC and in-game purchase, plus wallet top-ups and market sales.
Is money spent the same as account value?
No. Spending is what you actually paid, usually during sales. Account value is what the same games would cost in the store today. Most accounts are worth more at full price than was spent on them, because sales, bundles and free giveaways bring the cost down.
Can I get a refund on Steam?
Steam refunds games requested within 14 days of purchase and with less than 2 hours played, for almost any reason. Request it from Steam Support, under Purchases.
